ETSI, with support from the European Commission (EC), the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), the Critical Communications Association (TCCA), and the Union Internationale des Chemins de fer (UIC), is hosting the 3rd FRMCS Plugtests event in Paris, France, from 3 to 7 July 2023.

FRMCS is being developed as the future railway mobile communication system, based on 3GPP Mission Critical Services, to replace the current GSM-R standard. The Plugtests event aims to validate interoperability and mission-critical service harmonization for the successful deployment of mobile broadband-based communication systems in the railway sector.

The event will focus on rail-specific features and test various implementations based on 3GPP, ETSI, and IETF standards. Participants include vendors developing FRMCS-capable equipment and observers, such as government organizations, mobile network operators, railways operators, users, agencies, or regulators.

Attending the FRMCS Plugtests event offers advantages like assessing interoperability, validating standards understanding, testing with other real implementations, and promoting technology and the ecosystem. Additionally, an observer program will discuss the progress and challenges of FRMCS deployment, including interoperability demos from interested vendors.

The Plugtests events are organized by ETSI and co-funded by the EC and EFTA.
